Sacramento officials are expected to announce Tuesday morning that the city will host the 2014 USA Track & Field Championships.
The Business Journal reported in July that Sacramento was a leading contender. On Monday the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau said it had a “major announcement” at 10:30 a.m. at California State University Sacramento.
The Sacramento Bee, citing an unnamed source, said the city has been selected to host the championships.
Sacramento last hosted the event in 1995. The competition would draw 2,000 athletes and coaches, or has roughly the same number as the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, visitors bureau official Mike Testa said in July. Sacramento hosted that high-profile event in 2000 and 2004.
