Originating in 2000, Pastels on the Plaza has been a Chico tradition of showcasing novice and experienced professional fine artists in a community setting. Once again, the downtown city plaza will be transformed into a giant concrete canvas, for the annual Pastels on the Plaza on September 21st. The event, sponsored by the Chico Area Recreation and Parks District (CARD), is an opportunity for residents to paint their own vision in full color, on the interior sidewalk of the city’s plaza. The event is free to the public, and the fees for squares will pay for the cost of pastels and tools.
CARD is seeking artists and “concrete canvas” sponsors to help transform the downtown Chico City Plaza and is selling squares to individuals, groups and business.
For individuals or groups who want to “chalk it up”, you may purchase a 4’X4’ square for $20. The fee includes all chalk and blending supplies for your square and is a great opportunity for fledgling artists to express themselves. Businesses who would like to sponsor an 8’x8’ square can purchase them for $50. CARD is seeking experienced artists for the larger 8’X8’ squares. The larger “Fine Art Alley” squares will be located along Fourth Street between Main and Broadway. Businesses may use their own artists or have one assigned to their square.
To apply for the Fine Art Alley visit the CARD website to download the Fine Art Alley Sponsor application. Pastels on the Plaza is a wonderful opportunity for family to get together and spend a day creating with friends and neighbors.
