The 5th annual Galena Fest adds a new event to its traditional line up. CycloCross will add a new element of athleticism to the fall festival. Many of the other events return, such as the iconic “Bloody Rose” mountain bike race, The “Wicked Thorn” trail run, Art in the Park for kids. Galena Fest will be held on Sunday, September 29th at Galena Park. At the event’s core is a grueling mountain bike race aptly named The Bloody Rose. Starting at Galena Park, bikers will travel 12.2 miles, climb over 4,000 feet, battling terrain and elevation until they reach one of the most awe inspiring views of the Reno Tahoe area at 10,200 feet.
For those who prefer foot travel, a 7-mile run will give runners of all calibers an opportunity to dash through some of the most scenic trails offered in Galena. Biking and running events center around a festival full of food, family, friends, and music.
From a fundraising point-of-view, this year could solidify a major milestone. The process is in motion to add key trails that would allow hikers/bikers to go from the park to the peak without having to travel along the highway. Combine that with the ongoing support of outdoor youth programs and it’s easy to see why participation is meaningful and important.
