Our Favorite Hidden Patios of Chico

There is nothing like dining outside as a late sunset reflects off your dinner ware, great company joins you at your table and conversations linger into warm evenings without the feeling of rush or worry. Chico’s long summer days are best concluded on a patio with friends and family, delicious food and an intimate atmosphere. We all know and love the sprawling patios some of our biggest and most popular restaurants have to offer, but there are a few hidden gems you may not have hit yet this year. Add them to your summer bucket list and reserve your table before the outdoor dining season passes you by.

Red Tavern

Romantic and isolated from the busy street by a beautifully crafted fence and plenty of foliage, Red Tavern’s secret garden patio is lit with strings of lights and complete with a Bocce Ball court. A place for you to wear your date night best and sip fine wines under a freshly starred sky.

Bellachino’s Cafe

Coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine, and beer! You could literally spend your whole day on the patio of Bellachino’s just waiting to get hungry over and over again. Umbrellas, potted plants, live music and a chef who comes up to your table to check on you are all part of the welcoming atmosphere.

Monks Wine Lounge and Bistro

Set back in a nook behind the restaurant among brink and ivy, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the terrace of a cafe in Italy while sampling gourmet appetizers and perfectly paired wines, only to be brought back to reality when the server takes your order in English.

Smokin’ Mo’s BBQ

License plates, road signs and all thing American adorn the fence-walls of Smokin’ Mo’s backyard patio. Stacked wooden barrels form a water feature and the sound alone is enough to cool you off on a hot August night. With brick walls, climbing vines and delicious BBQ at picnic tables, this is the perfect setting for a family night out.

Scotty’s Landing

River front seating, sunsets and brunches, and beer! Scotty’s is full of character and characters, and is truly a uniquely Chico experience with delicious fare and a large deck with plenty of seating, you’ll easily watch your hours float by with laughter, gorgeous views, and a “the-more-the-merrier” view of life.

Sipho’s Jamaican Restaurant

Casual and full of flavor, it always feels like summer at Sipho’s. Watch the sun set behind the orchards as you sip a Red Stripe and chat with other guests on the homey, cheerful patio. Bright colors, wild plants, and the smell of rich spices from the kitchen make this the ideal place to grab a seat and stay awhile.

Sicilian Cafe

Fresh Caprese salad on a creek side patio. What more could you want ot wind down your summer days? Wine, steak, calamari, and great service? Well, they have that too! Tucked away at the edge of downtown with the natural backdrop of Little Chico Creek, Sicilian Cafe is truly a Chico charmer.

5th Street Steakhouse

The steak is delicious, the garlic mashed potatoes are unmatched, the wine list is extensive, and the service is friendly. Add a patio to that, and it’s a perfect 10! 5TH Street is a local favorite and classy place for both special occasions and happy hour drinks. Their patio is open as a peaceful dining locale away from the madness of downtown.

Izakaya Ichiban

Follow the simple “Sushi” signs around the corner from Best Buy and you’ll find yourself at a quaint little sushi house escape from the corporate spread that is 20th Street. Paper lanterns ans mini lantern lights hang from a clean, modern pergola that shades the seating area surrounded by flowers and greenery. Ice cold beer and sake prepare your palate for delicious specialty rolls. It is the perfect balance of class and comfort, and although our valley lacks the ocean breeze, there is something scrumptious about eating fish outside.
