Spring Flower Planting Guide.
Grab a six-pack! It’s time to celebrate a new garden year in style! Annual flowers offer instant spring to fall color.
DIG IN!
Before planting, spade your garden soil when it has a slightly moist, crumbly consistency. When you till, mix in 2-3 inches of compost and a slow release fertilizer for good growth and bloom all season.
TIME IT RIGHT!
Garden Centers often stock annuals well before planting time. But don’t let that rush you! For early color, plant cool season annuals such as pansy, viola, stock, lobelia, and sweet alyssum. Wait until after your last-frost date to plant tender types, including zinnia, marigold, and impatiens.
KEEP IT CHEAP!
Small annuals, 54-72 a flat- aren’t necessarily the best bargain if you have to plant more, closer together, for a quick fill in. Larger plants cost more but can be spaced farther apart, so you need fewer of them. Bottom line, If you’re patient, save money and buy small. For instant impact, GO BIG!
WE’RE ROOTING FOR YOU!
Check before you buy: If they roots are a solid mass, keep looking- don’t buy root-bound plants.
